Power supply in several areas in the four districts was affected on 26th May night. The Department of Energy at the Prime Minister's Office announced that power supply was restored in phases starting at 2:33 in the morning, with a majority of the affected areas being successfully restored by 5:42 in the morning. While the remaining areas were fully restored at 9 in the morning.
The Department of Electrical Services technical teams are working to safely identify the cause of the power supply disruption. Preliminary assessments have indicated that active weather conditions, including severe LIGHTNING CONDITIONS, may have affected parts of the transmission or distribution network. The root cause is under investigation and no critical facilities have been affected. The department will continue to monitor the situation as active weather conditions with severe lightning conditions persist, with a possibility of intermittent power supply disruptions as weather conditions persist.
Dedicated response teams are on standby to respond promptly to any further disruptions and maintain system stability. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The Department of Electrical Services wishes to assure the public that this matter is being treated with the highest level of urgency and coordination across all relevant agencies.
